Second grade is an exciting year when students leap academically and socially with a stronger sense of independence and responsibility. In Math, students learn addition and subtraction with regrouping, problem solving, telling time, counting money, graphing, geometry, and the beginning concepts of multiplication. In Reading, we develop strategies in fluency, comprehension, phonics and spelling.
Through The Daily 5 Reading Program, students become excited about reading and are able to read independently. Students gain a lot of writing experience through writing various genres and applying grammar skills learned through the writing process. Students also engage in interesting Social Studies units including “Holidays around the World” and “World History, Cultures and Traditions.” Life, Earth and Physical Science concepts are learned and explored through inquiry learning. Second graders also have the exciting opportunity to receive their First Holy Communion in May.
