This week, a few our students and staff members are attending Staddle Camp! It is a science enrichment program founded in 2011 in partnership with the Big Shoulders Fund, a non-profit organization based in Chicago, IL that provides support to Catholic schools in the neediest areas of inner-city Chicago. The program culminates in a trip to Saratoga, WY for a week in the wilderness at Brush Creek Ranch Staddle Camp. Once at camp, students learn by doing: looking for animal tracks while out hiking, discerning the difference between predator and prey by dissecting owl pellets, taking and testing water samples from the Wyoming mountains, and learning about constellations while stargazing. Students are pushed out of their comfort zones, challenged by activities which include horseback riding, high/low ropes course, rock climbing, and zip lining, while their teachers and ranch staff cheer them on.
